Urban planning for this expansion is critical, but not always implemented appropriately in Africa. The assumption that we future expansions can be predicted and that it will be formal and modern is in stark contrast with the realities in Africa of rapid urbanisation, informality, inadequate infrastructure and polarized development.

When it comes to urban development, stakeholders often operate in silos. Government, the private sector, non-profit organisations and communities will all have their own drivers and agendas, making it a complex process to create and expand cities that truly benefit citizens.

Zutari’s ability to connect different stakeholders and then collaboratively co-create new solutions for complex problems, allows us to both participate and shape the future of African cities.
As engineers and advisors, we not only focus on the design and maintenance of the infrastructure required, but bring urban planners, ecologists, environmentalist and infrastructure advisors to the table to help cities harness their potential and cope with increased needs for infrastructure and housing.

We provide engineering and advisory services to green- and brownfields developments through the implementation of sound planning, engineering design and project management to fulfil client’s needs without negatively impacting the environment and immediate surroundings. These services are complimented by digital engineering, urban planners, environmentalists and policy advisors.

We have the expertise and experience to successfully execute land infrastructure and urban planning projects across a range of industries – from green-and brownfield developments through to urban renewal. Our diverse urban and regional planning services are well suited to meet the needs of both private and public-sector clients.
