Calueque Dam

Water and power to rebuild a peaceful city

In the wake of the Angolan civil war, Zutari played a critical role in the repair and improvement of the Calueque Dam and related infrastructure; increasing hydropower generation, irrigation and reliable water supply for the local population.

Calueque is an important, multipurpose dam used not only for irrigation and potable water supply, but also as water storage for the Ruacana Hydroelectric power station in Namibia.

Given the dam’s importance in rebuilding a peaceful Angola, Zutari is proud to have been tasked with repairs and upgrades of the damaged and partially constructed infrastructure.

As technical expert, Zutari played a leading role in design reviews, construction supervision and technical assistance.  The task was ambitious and complex, but the result was immensely satisfying; a testimony to the transformative power of infrastructure.  After all, bringing together concrete elements with mechanical-, electrical- and pumping systems creates more than just a dam; it creates life and growth through access to water and sustainable power; it creates impact – for decades to come.

Tripling the pumping rate from 6m3 to 18m3 per second – more water, more power, more quickly.
