Dubai Creek Harbour transport master plan

A future-fit multimodal transport master plan to reduce car trips by 35%

Emaar Properties envisioned Dubai as a financially viable and ecologically responsible city built for future generations and consequently launched the Dubai Creek Harbour (DCH) flagship project, a mixed-use development designed to provide housing to the city’s rapidly growing population.

The development features residential, retail, hospitality, office, community, and cultural facilities spread across nine district zones. For a development like this to flourish, a transportation system that integrates different modes of travel into one easily accessible and sustainable system is fundamental.

The challenge for the master planning and traffic engineering teams was to design a solution that provides for a transport network that can accommodate more than 100,000 cars during peak hours, taking into consideration the limited access points caused by the creek surrounding the development.

The multimodal transport network proposed by our team includes the extension of the Green Line Metro Rail and providing three metro rail stations that are integrated with a comprehensive network of feeder buses. We also proposed the provision of a dedicated bus lane on the bridge connecting the retail district of the development with the marine stations located within the development’s Harbour Island.

The development features residential, retail, hospitality, office, community, and cultural facilities spread across nine district zones.
By tackling the last-mile challenge, a major portion of the forecasted demand would be shifted to public transport system

The public transport network proposed by us would reduce car trips by about 30-35 percent, significantly contributing towards the sustainability of the city.

Now residents and visitors can get in, out and around DCH comfortably, safely, and in an environmentally sustainable manner.
