Omuntele senior secondary school: a collaborative effort for the future of education

Omuntele is an electoral constituency in the Oshikato Region in northern Namibia and serves the local rural community. The new secondary school comes in addition to 10 senior schools in the region currently being served by 55 junior schools.

Zutari was appointed by the Namibian Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication to provide civil and structural design and supervision services for the new secondary school in Omuntele.

The location of the secondary school meant that most of the learners would have to stay in the hostel facilities. Zutari was tasked with the detailed scope to accommodate 600 pupils. A hostel and a kitchen to accommodate 500 pupils, a sports field and appropriate services that would grant learners a holistic learning experience. The development of the new secondary school gave the learners in the Omuntele rural area an elevated chance at education and safety.

The infrastructure services were provided with water from the existing supply about 2 km from the site, sewer treatment conducted on-site in ponds, gravel roads linked to existing roads, and electricity and telecommunications are provided by another firm.

Developing the new secondary school gave the learners in the Omuntele rural area an elevated chance at education and safety.
The three-phase project brought to life a comprehensive learning environment for the pupils in the Oshikoto Region

The development was carried out in three phases. Phase 1 entailed building the admission block, 10 classrooms, two special classrooms, a toilet block, and two hostel blocks. In addition, there was a kitchen and dining hall, a service building, a three-bed staff house, one flat, two combi courts, and a sports field.

Six classrooms and a science laboratory comprised Phase 2, along with 32 special classrooms, a toilet block, two hostel blocks, a two-bed house, one flat, and a six-lane athletics track.

The final Phase entailed four classrooms, one special classroom, a toilet block, two hostel blocks, a two-bed house, one flat, and two combi courts.  The scope and execution of the project highlight strong collaborative efforts by Zutari and stakeholders to construct the Omuntele Senior Secondary School.
