VIP Bridge at Meydan Racecourse Development, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

A major road and bridge project supporting the redevelopment of the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse and the wider Meydan development.

Client

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority

Project date

2007

The world renowned Dubai World Cup horse racing event, held at the Meydan Racecourse, is the richest event of its kind globally. As the popularity of horse racing increased, the Dubai Racing Club initiated the redevelopment of the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in 2007, integrating the facility into the new Meydan development. This redevelopment included the construction of an eight lane dual carriageway network with new bridges to support improved access and traffic movement.

The opportunity

The expansion of the racecourse and the associated Meydan development required new infrastructure to accommodate increased demand and deliver efficient access for large scale events. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority appointed Zutari, in joint venture with Al Burj Engineering Consultants, to undertake the design, tender documentation and construction supervision for the required road network and bridges.
Meeting the client’s tight deadlines was crucial. The design philosophy adopted by the joint venture prioritised construction phasing and sequencing to ensure that work could progress efficiently and without disruption to planned opening dates.

What we did

Zutari delivered full engineering services for the new road network and bridges. This included the design of the infrastructure, preparation of tender documentation and supervision of construction activities. The project required careful planning to ensure that the dual carriageway network and associated bridges were delivered to the highest standards within the fast track programme.
