
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS, PROPOSED ENVIRONMENTAL MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT PLAN, CITY OF CAPE TOWN STEENBRAS CATCHMENT AND WELLFIELD.
Zutari (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by the applicant, the City of Cape Town, to undertake the environmental authorisation process for the repair and maintenance of roads, bridges, boreholes, pipeline and pipe crossings located within the sensitive terrestrial ecosystems, watercourses, and wetlands of the Steenbras Wellfield. The proposed repair maintenance activities to the existing roads, bridges, boreholes, and pipe crossings triggers Listed Activities in terms of the NEMA, 2014 EIA Regulations (as amended) and approval for such activities must therefore be sought from the Competent Authority the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) in the Western Cape Province.
As per the 2014 EIA Regulations (as amended), authorisation for the Listed Activities triggered in this regard can be obtained via an Environmental Maintenance Management Plan (EMMP). The purpose of the EMMP is to ensure that the environmental impacts of the proposed maintenance activities are managed, mitigated, and kept to acceptable levels. This document will be submitted to DEA&DP for approval.
