The project overcame challenges such as community scepticism, language barriers, and political interference. Zutari built trust and fostered a mindset shift among community members, who are now actively engaged in shaping their own futures. The initiative also resulted in the creation of a rich knowledge base and a structured plan for sustainable development.

The project was recognised internationally, winning the IAP2 Australasian Conference’s International Members-At-Large Award for Project of the Year in 2019.
