Mogoditshane-Gabane-Mmankgodi Road Groundbreaking Ceremony: A milestone for Botswana

In a significant stride towards infrastructural development and road safety, Botswana witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mogoditshane-Gabane-Mmankgodi Road Project on 12 September 2024.

The event was officiated by His Excellency, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, the President of the Republic of Botswana, and marked a pivotal moment in the nation’s journey towards enhanced connectivity and prosperity.

The ceremony, attended by key stakeholders, community members, and officials, underscored the collective vision and effort driving this transformative initiative The groundbreaking ceremony was more than a symbolic event, as it marked the start of a critical infrastructure project that will improve the safety of road users and enhance the movement of people, goods and services in the region.

Zutari’s longstanding relationship and commitment to Botswana are deeply rooted in its contributions to infrastructure development over the past 30 years, with completed projects including roads, water supply, and power, resulting in a significant footprint within the country.

Situated in the Kweneng District, the project involves the construction and upgrading of approximately 27 kilometres of road through Mogoditshane- Gabane and Mmankgodi, transforming the current road from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway. In addition, there will be upgrades made to an intersection between A12 and A129 and Kolobeng Bridge. These upgrades will facilitate safer and more efficient travel for all road users.

By making travel easier, safer and more accessible this road will become a vital artery for economic growth and development, linking communities, allowing for greater movement and connectivity beyond border and regional markets.

The project’s innovative approach is encapsulated in the Development Manager Model, a framework that ensures strategic, quality-focused, and sustainable project execution. Showcasing a commitment to holistic national development, this project is part of 13 other infrastructure ventures across the country.

The Zutari Development Manager is deeply committed to the project’s success and acknowledge that effective participation of Batswana will remain integral to sustainable implementation.

Zutari, is invested in the nation’s welfare, pledging that 40% of the project’s workload will support citizen empowerment. This commitment will open avenues for citizen owned businesses and workers, fostering a spirit of community, progress and skills transfer. The project has already seen the employment of five civil engineers and an assistant project manager from Botswana, showcasing the talent and promise within the nation.

The emphasis on community engagement and participation stands as a testament to the project’s holistic approach. By involving the community at every stage, particularly during critical phases like land use and service relocations, the project aims to ensure transparency and inclusivity.

The project, expected to span and estimate of 40 months, is a significant milestone in President Masisi’s vision for a revitalised Botswana. It symbolises not only the physical infrastructure that will be developed but also the spirit of collaboration and transformation it embodies.
