The Hudayriyat Island (West) Velodrome Link Bridge project forms part of Abu Dhabi’s wider strategic development plan. Its purpose is to significantly improve the connectivity and accessibility of Hudayriyat Island and support efficient movement to the new velodrome.

The opportunity

There was a need for a dedicated, high level crossing that would allow spectators to reach the velodrome easily from the northern parking area, particularly during major events. A safer and more direct access route was required to support the velodrome’s operations and wider mobility network.

What we did

Zutari was appointed as the Lead Design Consultant, providing a full scope of services from pre concept design through to Issued for Construction documentation. The proposed link bridge spans the carriageway, connecting the northern car park directly to the velodrome. It also ties into an elevated cycle route, giving cyclists direct access to the sports area and linking around and over the velodrome via a rooftop cycle track. This approach improves overall accessibility and enhances the functionality of the wider area.
A high level crossing connects the northern parking area to the velodrome and links to elevated cycling routes for improved access and movement.

The outcome

The new link bridge delivers a safer, more efficient and more integrated access route to the velodrome. It supports spectator flow during events, strengthens links to the island’s cycling infrastructure and contributes to Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy for sustainable and accessible mobility.

The link bridge enhances direct access to the velodrome and forms a critical part of Hudayriyat Island’s evolving mobility network.
