The Dar es Salaam to Isaka Railway Line is a strategic infrastructure project aimed at improving transport efficiency and regional integration in Tanzania. The railway connects the port city of Dar es Salaam to the inland town of Isaka, serving as a vital corridor for freight and passenger movement.

The opportunity

Tanzania’s growing economy and regional trade demands necessitate reliable and efficient transport infrastructure. The existing rail network required modernisation to meet current and future needs. The project presented an opportunity to upgrade the corridor to standard gauge, improving speed, capacity and safety.

The scope of work included:

  • Engineering design and technical advisory

  • Geotechnical investigations

  • Environmental and social impact assessments

  • Alignment studies and corridor planning

  • Integration with regional transport networks

The project required coordination with multiple stakeholders and alignment with national development goals.
The railway line connects Dar es Salaam to Isaka, supporting trade and mobility across Tanzania and neighbouring countries.
